This twelve page article published in New Zealand's oldest scholarly
political science journal examines the public careers of the best-known
twentieth century New Zealand prime ministers, comparing their performances
on several counts. It concludes that while Peter Fraser, Prime Minister
1940-49, was only the fourth longest-serving, the magnitude of the
challenges he faced, and the wisdom he displayed, probably mark him out as
this country's greatest leader.
